, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Department of Physiology and Biophysics Phone : 601-984-1899 Fax :601-984-1817 E-mai l: styagi@physiology.umsmed.edu Research Interests: Our lab research interests are in the area of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in cardiovascular-renal system. Cardiac tumors are rarely malignant, which we think may be due to a cardiospecific tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-4 (TIMP-4). This inhibitor is robustly expressed in normal healthy heart but abrogated in failing or malignant myocardium. This inhibitor may have relevance to other tumors where tumor malignancy can be fatal. |
